Coldplay is set to debut "A Film For The Future", a 44-minute visual companion to their critically acclaimed album "Moon Music". The film, described as a “kaleidoscopic patchwork quilt”, will premiere worldwide on January 22, offering fans a breathtaking multimedia experience.
A Collaborative Global Effort
The project, executive-produced by Ben Mor, who directed Coldplay’s 2016 music video "Hymn For The Weekend" featuring Beyoncé, was created by a team of over 150 visual artists from 45 countries. Each artist was given snippets of the album to inspire their own unique contributions to the film.
Mor shared, “It was a huge privilege to have a bird’s-eye view of such an ambitious project, with so many incredible creators and filmmakers working independently of each other. The final film is simply jaw-dropping, and I can’t wait for Coldplay fans to see it.”
Screenings and Immersive Experience
The film will be shown in 360-degree screenings at Lightroom venues in London, Manchester, and Seoul. Tickets are now available for purchase.
The film’s release will coincide with the launch of a fan-led website powered by Microsoft AI at attf.cold.com on January 22.
Coldplay’s Statement and Artistic Pride
Coldplay expressed their gratitude for the global collaboration, stating:
"We’re very grateful to all the amazing artists who lent their genius to this film. They’ve created something very beautiful, and we’re extremely proud of it."
Hints and Teasers
Fans may recognize elements of this project from previous Coldplay releases. The idea was first teased in 2019’s "Everyday Life" album artwork, appearing as a car license plate. Additionally, a section of the project was featured in the lyric video for "feelslikeimfallinginlove", one of the hit singles from "Moon Music", alongside "We Pray".
Coldplay’s Global Resonance
The decision to recruit artists from around the world aligns with frontman Chris Martin’s belief that Coldplay’s music often resonates most deeply in non-English-speaking countries. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Martin shared:
"I sometimes feel that we are most powerful in countries where they don't really speak English. I'm not the best lyricist in the world by any stretch of the imagination, but I think if you don't speak English, there's a feeling that you feel."
What Fans Can Expect
With "A Film For The Future", Coldplay continues to innovate by blending music, technology, and visual art, creating a unique experience that transcends language and borders. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or a newcomer to their work, this ambitious project promises to be a celebration of creativity and collaboration on a global scale.
