Chappell Roan hints at 'super weird' second album that crosses genres

Chappell Roan is exploring a wide range of musical styles on her "super weird" second studio album. The *Casual* singer, who gained attention with her 2023 debut *The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess*, revealed that she is already several songs into her next project, and fans can expect an eclectic mix of genres.

Speaking to *Rolling Stone*, Chappell shared, “We have a country song, a dancy song, one that’s very Eighties, another that’s acoustic, and one with a live-band, Seventies vibe. It’s super weird."

Fans attending her recent shows may have already heard her unreleased song "Subway," though she hinted that it might not become a single. “I just like performing it,” she said. “There are two other tracks I want to perform, but I’m not sure what’s next. It just hasn’t clicked yet. I don’t think it’s ‘Subway.’”

Her manager, Nick Bobetsky, confirmed that Chappell has been busy writing new material. He told *Music Business Worldwide*, "When she finishes a song she loves, we quickly work to get it out there, like we did with *Good Luck Babe*."

While Chappell is focused on releasing singles when she's "ready," her team acknowledges that her fans are eager for a full album. Bobetsky explained, “Chappell Roan is an album artist. That’s what people want from her. But we’re also aware of the power of singles. Right now, she wants the freedom to release music when she’s excited about it, and that’s what fans want too.”

In a recent interview with *SNL* star Bowen Yang for *Interview* magazine, the 26-year-old artist, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, expressed that chart success has never been her main goal. “I’ve never cared about charts or radio play, but it’s funny how the industry takes me more seriously now,” she said. “Having a charting album or song doesn’t make my career more meaningful. If anything, it’s frustrating that it took this long for people to see what really matters.”
