Calvin Harris prepares to release new song featuring his own vocals

Calvin Harris is gearing up to release a brand-new song with country influences—one that also features his own vocals.

On March 5, the Scottish superstar producer shared a 30-second teaser of the track, titled Smoke the Pain Away. In the video, Harris sits in a chair strumming an acoustic guitar, his long hair visible as he sings the melancholic anthem. The footage shifts between soft-focus shots and moments of him behind the microphone, fully immersed in the music.

"Too late, I've been up for days, I can't even see straight, no I can't smoke the pain away," he sings, delivering a verse filled with raw emotion.

In the caption, Harris kept it simple, writing “it’s coming,” signaling that the track’s release is imminent. Smoke the Pain Away marks his first single since Free, his 2024 collaboration with Ellie Goulding, which followed the release of 96 Months, a greatest-hits compilation.

The new song has already drawn praise from Harris’ wife, BBC Radio 1 producer Vick Hope, who excitedly commented, “Those vocals... YEEEESSSS????!!!”

While Harris has no scheduled performances in 2025, Smoke the Pain Away appears to mark a new phase in his career, blending country influences into his sound. Whether the track will include dance elements or remain a pure country song remains to be seen.

Harris isn’t the first electronic producer to venture into country music. Avicii famously blended the genres with Wake Me Up in 2013, while Diplo, under his Thomas Wesley alias, released a country album in 2020 and a mixtape in 2024. It remains to be seen whether Smoke the Pain Away will follow that trend or carve out its own unique space.
