Beyoncé releases new song "Be Alive" for "King Richard"

November 15, 2021

Beyoncé is releasing the new song "Be Alive" for Warner Bros. 'upcoming biopic drama "King Richard", inspired by the story of tennis legends Venus and Serenas Williams and their father Richard Williams.

The film stars Will Smith as Richard Williams, the father and coach of professional tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, played by Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton, respectively. Also in attendance are Tony Goldwyn, Jon Bernthal, Andy Bean, Kevin Dunn and Craig Tate.

If there's one artist who knows how to take off a soundtrack, it's Beyoncé.

After the masterpiece "The Lion King: The Gift" (2019), with songs inspired by the live action remake of Disney's favorite movie "The Lion King", which was the basis for the movie "Black Is King »(2020), Beyoncé puts her stamp on another film project.

"Be Alive", an empowerment anthem, uses excerpts from The Doors' classic song "Five To One" (1967), which was also used by JAY-Z in the song "Takeover" of his famous album "The Blueprint" ( 2001).

The song's lyrics draw inspiration from both the story of the Williams brothers and their father Richard Williams being explored in "King Richard" and the personal story of Beyoncé.

"I have a million kilometers on me / They want to see how far I will go / The path was never paved with gold / We worked and built it ourselves", he sings.

Note that "Be Alive" is Beyoncé's first song since "Black Parade", which was released in June 2020 to honor the history, culture, pride and activism of blacks.

"Black Parade" was included in the deluxe version of "The Lion King: The Gift", while an extended version of the song coined the end titles of "Black Is King".

It was also the song with the most nominations at the 2021 Grammy Awards. It had garnered a total of four nominations, including one nomination for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and received the Best R&B Performance Award, highlighting Beyoncé in female artist with the most awards (28) in Grammy history.

The movie "King Richard" will be officially released in US cinemas and on the HBO MAX platform on November 19. The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival last month and will close the AFI Fest with a screening at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood on November 14.
