Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez’s first date served as the inspiration for their new song, Sunset Blvd, a track that perfectly captures the magic of a romantic escape. Accompanied by a nostalgic music video, the song evokes a retro feel, transporting listeners to a carefree, love-filled moment.
In a behind-the-scenes video released on March 19, Blanco shared how the song came to life:
"This piece captures that unique moment when you completely lose yourself in someone else—the point where fear disappears, and you say, 'I don’t care anymore. I’m going to live this fully, without hesitation. I’m going to surrender to this new feeling.'”
He fondly recalled that night in vivid detail:
"We were in a convertible, the wind blowing through our hair, and I felt like a teenager again. I had made a special playlist just for the ride, and we were dancing and singing. I could see her laughing and smiling—it was just wonderful. The funny thing is, I didn’t even realize it was a date. I thought we were just two friends hanging out."
Gomez, laughing, quickly corrected him: “I knew it was a date, though.”
Blanco playfully responded: “Thankfully, I didn’t—otherwise, I would have been a lot more stressed.”
When Gomez seemed doubtful, he sweetly reassured her: “Look at you! You’re beautiful.”
Sunset Blvd is set to be featured on their upcoming album, I Said I Love You First, which will be released on March 21.
