Bad Bunny is the first Latino to receive Apple Music's Artist of the Year.
Apple Music has named Bad Bunny its 2022 Artist of the Year.
This is the first time since the Apple Music Awards began in 2019 that a Latin artist has been recognized as Artist of the Year.
The Puerto Rican artist, whose album 'Un Verano Sin Ti' is also the most streamed album on Apple Music this year and the most streamed Latin album of all time, is being honored for his excellence and influence on global culture in 2022.
The Artist of the Year award has been awarded in previous years to Billie Eilish, Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd.
"We're thrilled to celebrate the achievements of Bad Bunny, whose influence on every corner of culture cannot be ignored in 2022," said Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of Apple Music and Beats.
“It's been amazing to see Bad Bunny go from Apple Music Up Next Artist in 2018 to our Artist of the Year this year. We congratulate him on this record-breaking year and for continuing to bring Latin music to a massive global audience," he added.
In addition to becoming the most streamed Latin artist of all time on Apple Music worldwide, Bad Bunny's "Moscow Mule" holds the record for the most streamed Latin song of all time on the platform on its first day of release .
Bad Bunny also broke the record for the Latin artist with the most songs (22) on Apple Music's Daily Top 100 at the same time.
He reached No. 1 on the Daily Top 100 in 34 countries worldwide, more than any other Latin artist, and holds the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 most-streamed Latin albums on Apple Music in the first day of their release, among many other milestones.
"When I started, I didn't have a global fan base," Bad Bunny said in an exclusive video released by Apple Music.
"I'm grateful for everything I've accomplished and everything I've experienced. The latin music movement has grown so much. I would never take credit or say, "That's because of me." No, it's because of all of us. In a whole generation. Our energy and presence is always felt," he continued.
To celebrate his award, Bad Bunny curated a playlist on Apple Music titled "La Fórmula" featuring songs from Myke Towers and Rauw Alejandro, among others, and audiences can tune in to Apple Music 1 to enjoy Bad Bunny Day with exclusive programming, tributes and more.
