Avicii: The chronicle of health problems that led to suicide

Avicii passed away prematurely, with a long history of health problems, hospitalizations and surgeries.
Today marks three years since Avicii died at the age of 28.

Swedish DJ and music producer (world-famous Tim Bergling) has been suffering from health problems for a long time, was hospitalized and was forced to cancel appearances until he completely withdrew from touring in 2016.

His music is the legacy he left. A life dedicated to spreading joy through songs whose popularity was growing exponentially throughout the EDM world. Avicii was the inspiration for many of today's most brilliant stars, as he constantly struggled with his health.

Avicii's health issues began in January 2012, when the DJ and producer were hospitalized in New York with acute pancreatitis, a side effect of heavy alcohol consumption. He remained in the hospital for 11 days.

About a year after the incident in New York City, Avicii was back in the hospital for similar issues while on tour in Australia.

Doctors called for him to undergo gallbladder surgery, but the producer refused, choosing instead to continue working on his first album, "True".

The album was released in September of that year, reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 "and topped the Top Dance / Electronic Albums for six weeks.

March 28, 2014: Avicii is being treated in Miami
Although the media reported that Avicii had stopped drinking alcohol, the problems escalated seven days after the release of a version of "True" with his own remixes of the songs.

He was hospitalized in Miami for a blocked gallbladder and was forced to cancel scheduled appearances at the SLS Hotel and the concert as head of the Ultra Music Festival. Alesso took his place in the SLS, while "rival" deadmau5 replaced him in the Ultra.

Avicii said that the problem arose because of his uninterrupted tour: "My fans know that I have had problems with my stomach and pancreatitis in the past," he said on social media.

"I woke up Wednesday morning in severe pain but flew to Miami anyway, hoping it would pass. The pain was still there when I landed so I went straight to the hospital. "He was taken care of and I left later that night. Unfortunately, the pain returned yesterday afternoon and I returned to the hospital, where I was allowed to stay the night," he described.

At the hospital he learned that not only did his pancreatitis return, but also that he suffered from appendicitis. He underwent surgery to remove the appendix and gallbladder and continued his tour as soon as possible.
