Twitter has reinstated Kanye West's account after suspending it for nearly eight months because the rapper violated the platform's rules against inciting violence.
Kanye West's account, which has 31 million followers, now shows his last post on December 1, 2022, one day before the suspension was imposed.
After a spate of anti-Semitic remarks in various interviews, Kanye West posted a series of offensive tweets on Twitter, including a symbol that combined a swastika and the Star of David.
The platform's owner Elon Musk said at the time that Kanye West had "violated our rules against incitement to violence" and that his account was to be suspended.
In October, just two months earlier, Kanye West's Twitter and Instagram accounts had been suspended again for anti-Semitic messages the rapper had posted. Both platforms removed his controversial posts.
That same month, Adidas cut ties with Kanye West, stating that it "does not tolerate anti-Semitism or any other form of hate speech."
Kanye West was also banned from Instagram for 24 hours in March 2022 for his racist post targeting comedian Trevor Noah.
Neither Twitter/X nor Elon Musk have commented on the reinstatement of Kanye West's account, which has yet to post.
Twitter reportedly reinstated Kanye West's account on Saturday after "receiving assurances that (Ye) will not use the platform to use anti-Semitic or other harmful language," the Wall Street Journal reported, citing an unnamed source.
The New York Times added that it was informed by Twitter that Kanye West's account "will not be able to monetize and will not have ads appearing next to his posts."
In November 2022, Elon Musk also reinstated former US President Donald Trump's Twitter account, having conducted a poll that showed 51.8% of users supported the move.
However, Donald Trump stated that he had no interest in returning to the platform.
