The Houston Medical Examiner's Office has announced Takeoff's official cause of death.
The 28-year-old Migos rapper died of "punctured gunshot wounds to the head and torso to the arm," according to documents from the Harris County, Texas Institute of Forensic Sciences.
His death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's report.
Takeoff, who was a member of Migos along with his uncle Quavo and cousin Offset, was shot and killed in the early hours of Tuesday, November 1 in Houston, Texas.
The late rapper was at a private party at 810 Billiards & Bowling in downtown Houston with Quavo when around 2:35 a.m. local time, according to police investigators, shots were fired during an afterparty attended by about 40 people.
Takeoff died instantly and two other injured people, a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
When police arrived, they found Takeoff dead outside the bowling alley's entrance and confirmed that at least two different firearms were used in the shootings.
During a news conference hours after the tragedy, Houston's police chief, mayor and homicide squad noted that much of the case is currently under investigation and called on witnesses to come forward with any information. information that could help authorities solve the case.
A new video of the moments leading up to Takeoff's fatal shooting shows a man holding a gun just before the shooting ended.
During a press conference, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner also spoke of the immense sadness that was spread by Takeoff's death.
“I got a lot of calls from Houston and outside of Houston. And everyone was saying what a great young man he is. How peaceful he is. What a great artist. I'm calling on everybody—hip hop artists—in Houston and across the nation, we need to police ourselves,” he said.
Following the heartbreaking news, Migos' label, Quality Control Music, condemned the "senseless violence" that claimed Takeoff's life in a social media post.
“It is with broken hearts and deep sorrow that we mourn the loss of our beloved brother Kirsnick Khari Ball, known to the world as Takeoff. Senseless violence and a stray bullet have taken another life from this world and we are devastated," the company said.
Quality Control Music asked fans to "respect his family and friends as we all continue to try to manage this significant loss."
