Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson split after eight years together

One of Hollywood’s most low-key couples quietly calls it quits

After nearly eight years of staying out of the spotlight, Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson have officially gone their separate ways, People magazine reports. The breakup follows a recent sighting of the couple in Malibu—where they’ve been living together since 2021—leaving fans surprised and saddened by the news.

Their relationship began in 2017 and was marked by rare public moments and an overwhelming sense of privacy. Yet, every so often, the couple let the world in. One of the most memorable moments came during a Coldplay concert in London in 2021, when Martin dedicated the song “My Universe” to Dakota, sweetly saying:
“This is about my universe—and she’s here with us tonight.”

Love at Home, Away from the Cameras

In a rare interview with Elle UK, Johnson offered a glimpse into their life together:
“We love staying home. We both work a lot, so being cozy and private just feels right.”

Though they were engaged for several years—according to a 2024 People exclusive—neither felt the need to rush into marriage.

Martin, 48, shares two children with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow: 21-year-old Apple and 19-year-old Moses. Johnson was said to be extremely close to both. In her own words, she loved them “like her life depended on it.”

A Personal Shift Amid Professional Peaks

The news of their breakup comes at a high point in Martin’s professional life. Coldplay’s ongoing Music of the Spheres world tour is breaking records, while their latest album Moon Music soared to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in October.

Though their love story has come to an end, it leaves behind a quiet legacy of deep connection—lived largely away from the cameras.
