A documentary about Fleetwood Mac is currently being developed

A "definitive" documentary about Fleetwood Mac is officially in the works.

On Tuesday, a representative for the legendary rock band announced via Instagram that filmmaker Frank Marshall will direct the project for Apple Original Films.

"It's not a Rumour," the post read, referencing the band's iconic album. "From director Frank Marshall, this Apple Original Films documentary will take you on the epic journey of the generation-defining Fleetwood Mac." The announcement was accompanied by three black-and-white photos of the band members.

Apple described the film as "definitive" and "fully authorised," promising an in-depth look at the band's rise to fame, which centered on core members Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks during the mid-1970s.

The documentary will include never-before-seen footage, fresh interviews, and archival conversations with Christine McVie, the beloved singer and keyboardist who passed away at age 79 in 2022 after battling cancer.

The film will explore Fleetwood Mac's journey, highlighting their highs and lows and the unique talents each member brought to the band’s unparalleled success. With over 220 million records sold globally, the documentary will delve into the "musical alchemy" that allowed the group to create timeless music while weathering personal and professional chaos.

A release date for the documentary has not yet been announced, but director Frank Marshall expressed his enthusiasm for the project.

"I'm fascinated by the incredible story of their monumental musical achievements," he said. "Fleetwood Mac managed to intertwine their often chaotic and operatic personal lives with their music, creating a legacy that became legendary. This film will celebrate both the music and the extraordinary people behind it."

Despite the documentary, fans shouldn't expect a Fleetwood Mac reunion. In a June interview with MOJO, Stevie Nicks dismissed the idea, saying, "Without Christine, no can do. There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn't work."
