Varick D. Smith, better known as Smitty, is a Haitian-American rapper and hip-hop ghostwriter from Little Haiti, Miami, Florida.While growing up in Little Haiti, Smitty came home one day to see a friend fatally shot due to involvement in the drug game. The Chakachas were a Belgium-based group of Latin soul and Afro Cuban studio musicians. Also known as Les Chakachas, Los Chakachas, or Los Chicles, the group was founded in 1958 by bandleader Gaston Bogaert a.k.a. Tito Madinez (conga and tumba). Born and raised in Malawi, East Africa, Malia's family had to go into exile in London in the late eighties. It was here that she got hooked onto music and discovered jazz, especially singers like Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday, a turning point in her life. After she finished school she started singing background parts in diverse pop-projects but wanted more. She found herself a pianist and started writing her own songs, working in bars and clubs around town.
